Mariel has been hosting the country’s top noontime show Wowowee for 4 years already. In that span of time, she has seen people come and go yet she stayed on the show which she firmly believes is a result of her hardwork and commitment. She admitted that she has already turned down a number of projects including daily teleseryes since she makes sure that Wowowee is on top of her work priority list. When she’s offered projects that requires her to miss her daily Wowowee stints, she immediately declines. “I think isa ‘yan sa reasons kung bakit natutuwa sa akin si Willie. Kasi ilan na ang na-turn down ko kasi kinailangan akong mag-absent. Kailangan three times lang ako sa Wowowee. I really can’t afford to do that. I would love to do a teleserye but short stint lang. I really can’t go all out because Wowowee is really my bread and butter. Nagawa ko na yun many times. Hindi talaga pwede. And happy ako sa decision na ginawa ko, na nag-stay ako sa Wowowee,” she related.
In a recent chat with abs-cbn.com, Mariel was asked of her opinion regarding recent talks that main host Willie Revillame is in a search for a new addition to their current roster of hosts (Mariel is joined in the show by Pokwang, Valerie Concepcion, and RR Enriquez). Mariel clarified that she’s not in any way threatened by such rumors, instead she welcomes any addition but not the removal of any of her present colleagues which she calls the Dream Team. Mariel says, “No. Talagang sure na sure? Hindi naman masyado. Pero if ever man merong dumating, welcome naman sila. Welcome kami for addition. Ayaw namin ng subtraction. And lagi naman nilang sinasabi na may bagong darating, hindi naman nangyayari so sanayan lang ‘yan.”
With the popular noontime show airing daily, everyone assumes that Mariel and her co-hosts earn a lot from their hosting duties. Without mentioning a specific amount, Mariel says that they don’t earn as much as others assume it to be, though she admits she gets more than enough for her to be able to get stuff for herself. “Hindi ‘yan totoo [na malaki ang sweldo naming hosts]. Madami din naman kaming gastos. Hindi rin naman madali to dress up everyday and be fab. Hindi naman joke yun. Hindi naman joke yung gasoline. Let’s just na kasi I don’t like na may utang ako. Let’s just na because of Wowowee, I can pay for things in cash. Yun ang gusto kong gawin. Malaking bagay yun.”
Mariel also talked about her future plans. She intends to finally invest her hard-earned money in a house within the year. She plans of buying a lot in the Alabang area where she grew up and her sister presently resides. Mariel says, “My dream is to buy a house in Alabang. I’m so saving up for that talaga. Sana, sana talaga matuloy. Hindi ko alam kung ano klaseng house ang gusto ko. Pero sige. Just because last weekend I was in La Union, I think I want to have a Greek-inspired house, parang Santorini-ish. Kasi yung pinuntahan kong resort ganun yung theme niya. Gandang-ganda ako. But my preferences might change the next day kasi hindi pa naman talaga ako ganon ka-decided. Once na go na ang pag-buy ng house, then for sure pag-iisipan ko na talaga.”
With a hard working girl like Mariel, blessed with projects left and right (daily Wowowee, Entertainment Live on Saturdays, guest hosting stint in SNN, and Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition 3 in waiting), we are so sure that Mariel’s dream house is already within her reach. Good luck Mariel!
